Porsche has once again pushed the boundaries of electric vehicle (EV) performance, establishing a remarkable record for the fastest single journey ever carried out by an electric vehicle. The feat was accomplished on a thrilling trip from Thailand to Singapore, covering an impressive distance of 1,845 kilometers in just 29 hours and 15 minutes.
A triumphant trio of journalists embarked on this groundbreaking adventure, representing their respective countries of Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore. The journey was made possible by the potent and versatile Porsche Taycan 4S Cross Turismo, a high-performance EV that promises to redefine long-distance travel for electric cars.
The group, consisting of Pan Eu Jin from Malaysia, Pholpat Salayakanond from Thailand, and Desmond Chan from Singapore, embarked on the exhilarating Taycan Record Run, using their expertise and the cutting-edge technology of the Taycan 4S Cross Turismo to conquer the demanding route.
Throughout the journey, the journalists took turns operating the state-of-the-art Taycan, ensuring optimal efficiency and seamless progress towards the record. With only occasional stops for recharging, the team proved that electric vehicles can excel in endurance travel.
The Porsche Taycan 4S Cross Turismo utilized in this daring expedition boasts the Performance Battery Plus specification and a software update introduced in 2022. These enhancements contributed to a significant increase in the WLTP-rated range, allowing the vehicle to cover an astonishing 512 kilometers before requiring a recharge. This remarkable achievement was made possible through improved thermal energy management, selective front-axle motor de-coupling, and optimized energy recuperation strategies.
To facilitate efficient charging during the journey, the record-setting run capitalized on the Shell Recharge High Power Charging (HPC) network. This cutting-edge network consists of ABB chargers, offering an impressive output range from 180 kW to 360 kW. With the Taycan’s innovative 800-volt electrical architecture, each charging interval took no more than 25 minutes, a testament to the rapid advancement of electric vehicle charging technology.
It is essential to note that Porsche ensured the integrity of the record attempt by adhering strictly to all current speed limits and regulations. Moreover, no additional incentives were provided to the journalists participating in the journey, reinforcing the authenticity and significance of the achievement.
Drawing on existing Porsche customer benefits, the team leveraged the Shell HPC network’s capabilities, enabling them to reserve EV chargers for up to 60 minutes before their arrival. This efficient planning further showcased the seamless integration of high-performance EVs with the expanding charging infrastructure.
Porsche’s groundbreaking record exemplifies the accelerating evolution of electric vehicles, highlighting their exceptional capabilities in long-distance journeys. Beyond setting a remarkable benchmark, the Taycan’s record-breaking journey underscores the potential of electric mobility, dispelling range anxiety and solidifying electric cars as a viable choice for both everyday driving and extraordinary adventures.
As automotive technology continues to advance, Porsche’s tireless pursuit of innovation and performance firmly establishes the Taycan as a trailblazer in the realm of electric vehicles, setting new standards for efficiency, range, and sheer driving pleasure. The record-setting journey from Thailand to Singapore will undoubtedly be remembered as a watershed moment in the ongoing electrification of the automotive industry.
